After settling in at the accommodation you have the rest of the day at your leisure to explore the town of Tasiilaq. Dinner prepared by local chef. As we enjoy the meal we take the opportunity for a welcome meeting where you will be briefed on the days ahead and make sure that you are all set for the trip.
Accommodation: in a house centrally in Tasiilaq. The houses accommodate 2 people per room, in single beds.
The house has a living room, a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with shower and flushing toilet.
At 9:00am we meet the mushers and start preparing the dogs and the sledges. The dogsled will then take us over Kung Oscars fjord, up to the large inland lake of Qordlortoq, where we will have a short break to enjoy the majestic scenery and allow for all dogsled teams to gather together for the continuation of the journey. We will then continute our adventure through the mountain valleys until arriving at three little huts, known by the locals as Kaffebaren. Here we will enjoy a short break, with some refreshments.
Continuing on our journey we climb to an altitude of 500 meters above sea level, where we can enjoy beautiful views of the second largest fjord in Greenland, the magestic Sermilik ice fjord. We then start our descent, through a narrow path of a frozen stream, leading us to our overnight stop at the edge of the Ice fjord.
Accomodation: You will be lodged in a basic but very charming mountain hut, where sleeping is in sleeping bag accommodation. Toilet is in an outhouse and there is no shower.
After breakfast we start our return journey to Tasiilaq from the Ice fjord. On the way there will be plenty of opportunities to stop and take photos or simply enjoy the scenery.
Accommodation: Same house in town as when you arrived on your first day
Today we will change our mode of transport from traditional dog sled to modern snowmobiles, allowing us to cover long distances at speed. This full day journey will take us to the magnificent Tinit glacier. Our first stop is at the bottom of the glacier where we will come up close and personal with the incredible blue ice of the glacier front, a huge wall towering 40 meters high and a truly magnificent sight. We then continue up on the glacier itself until we reach the highest point of the glacier, a rocky outcrop at an elevation of 1200 meters above sea level. Here we stop for hot drinks and light refreshments, which we have brought with us and can enjoy in an incredible setting. From the top of the glacier, you will have a truly amazing 360 dregree panoramic view of the mountains of Ammassalik Island, the Inlandsis, polar sea and Sermilik Ice fjord.
After having enjoyed our refreshments, we descend from the glacier down to yet another scenic spot where we can view the hut we stayed at a few days prior.
We will then start our return journey towards Tasiilaq where we arrive late afternoon.
