Ásbyrgi is a huge horseshoe shaped depression that was created by catastrophic glacial bursts 2000 - 7000 years ago. From Ásbyrgi we go to Dettifoss; Europe´s most powerful waterfall. The falls are more then 100 meters wide and 44 meters high. The ground almost shakes beneath your feet as you get closer to this magnificent falls. Along the way to the waterfall we stop at a few places of interest, such as Hljóðaklettar and Hólmatungur. Here we can see some of the most beautiful scenery, unusual rock formations and basaltic columns in Iceland.
From Dettifoss we go to Hverir with its bubbling mud pits and hot springs this really is a unique area. A short drive takes us to lake Mývatn. With a panoramic view along the way we stop at the Mývatn Nature Baths where we can enjoy some refreshments and relax in the lagoon (additional cost). Our last stop is at the beautiful waterfall Goðafoss before arriving back in Akureyri.
