The itinerary will include following sights of interests :

Day 1: Reykjavík - Keflavík
Arrival at Keflavík international airport and transfer by flybus to your accommodation in Reykjavík.

Day 2: (ca. 190 km)
Rental car pick up at hotel in the morning and explore the sights of the "Golden Circle": Þingvellir national park which is a great lava arena in a rift valley and the site of the oldest parliament, "the Althing" * Lake Þingvallavatn * views of surrounding mountains * Lake Laugarvatn * the Geysir geothermal area - have your camera ready for one of the geysers, Strokkur as it spouts a coloumn of hot water * Gullfoss waterfall (the Golden Waterfall)
 
Day 3: (ca. 200 km)
The gravel highland road of the Kjölur route * views of the Langjökull glacier,  Mt Kerlingarfjöll and Hofsjökull glacier * Hveravellir hot spring area with steam vents and hot pools * possibility for bathing in the natural pool which is cooled down by the fresh water * possibility for a hike on the trail of the outlaws who have been hiding out in this area * the artificial lakes which are part of the power station Blanda river and cover large portion of the northern end of this route * Varmahlið
 
Day 4: (ca. 280 km)
Skagafjörður * glacial valleys of Öxnadalur and Hörgárdalur * Akureyri - the university town often referred to as the capital of North Iceland. Akureyri has many points of interest to explore: the charming wooden houses in the old part of the town, the northern most botanical garden, the church - a landmark that towers over the downtown area and a number of interesting museums, galleries and cafés.
Goðafoss waterfall * the fascinating volcanic area of Lake Mývatn. Time to check out some of the highlights: lava fields, volcanic craters and mountains, pseudo craters, lava rock formations, solfatara field with boiling mud pits and roaring steam vents * the Nature Baths geothermal lagoon with a possibility for a relaxing bath in pleasantly warm water and great views over the area.

Day 5: (ca. 320 km)
Drive through Bárðardalur valley * Skjálfandafljót river * Aldeyjarfoss waterfall with impressive wall of basalt formations * Hrafnabjargafoss * Sprengisandur desert higland road * the geothermal area of Laugafell * a chance for bathing in the natural warm pool * view of glaciers (Hofsjökull, Tungnafellsjökull, Vatnajökull) * several unbridged streams and rivers to cross * Hrauneyjar highland station

Day 6:  (ca. 230 km)
Driving scenic highland roads * Landmannalaugar,  a geothermal area with hot springs and a chance for a hike through colourful landscape or bathing in the warm stream * Eldgjá rift, one of the biggest fissures in the world * Kirkjubæjarklaustur

Day 7: (ca. 190-260 km): 
The village Vík * bird cliffs * black sandy beach which stretches as far as you can see * Reynisdrangar stack * Dyrhólaey a bird sanctuary * Eyjafjöll mountains covered by Eyjafjallajökull glacier under which rests the notorious volcano of the same name * Skógar folk museum * Skógafoss waterfall * Seljalandsfoss waterfall * views of the Vestmannaeyjar Islands and Mt. Hekla (weather permitting) * Hveragerði * Reykjavik

Day 8: Reykjavík –Keflavík (ca. 50 - 70 km)
Drive to Keflavík international airport, drop off the rental car and check-in for the flight back home. If your departure is in the afternoon or evening, then you have the chance to explore the Reykjanes peninsula or visit the Blue Lagoon for a final relaxing time in the pleasantly warm geothermal water.

 

Itinerary can also be tailor-made according to your preferences and interests. Additional activities we can be added to the programme, e.g. horseback riding, sea-kayaking, river rafting, whale watching, glacial hike, caving, sightseeing flights, etc.

In the Icelandic highlands weather can change suddenly. The level of water in rivers may vary due to rain or long winter.

Off-road driving is illegal in Iceland.
